Should tennis be offered in junior high?
Should Tennis be offered in Junior high???
Some things to consider... -
Arlington schools rarely make it past first round of Regional Touraments Schools in North Texas with Jr. high Program: Allen, Birdville, Carrol, Cedar HIll, Coppell, Crowley, Denton, Desoto, Duncanville, Eagle Mountain, Grapevine-Colleyville, Keller, Mansfield, McKinney, Mesquite, Midlothian, Northwest, Plano, Red Oak, Richardson, Aledo, Burleson, Cleburne, Corsicana, Ennis, Forney, Highland Park, Kaufman, Rockwall. -
Cost of program will be much less in comparison to other Jr. High sports - Jr. High Tennis program would meet Title 9 requirements - Greater college scholarship potential for Arlington players -
Increased standing among schools in the state of Texas (Star Award) - Gives students more options to "belong" during the critical years of Jr. High
Levels the playing field for Arlington schools when competing at Regional level -
Tennis players generally have the hightest GPA of all student-athletes due to the individual accountability fostered by tennis

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Our own Ben Agger was recently appointed to this year's Financial Futures Committee that will help guide the Board with some decisions. Please give him your support and more ammunition to help get money to rebuild our courts and start a junior high program.
Arlington has has some Texas' best Football, Basketball, and Volleyball teams. While these sports excel Golf, Tennis and other sports have not had the same success. Do you ever wonder why? One reason could be that the successful sports Jr. Highs. Is this the only reason for the disparity in the programs? I am not for sure if it is the only reason, but in tennis I do know that out of the top 25 ranked teams in Texas all of the North Texas teams have a Jr. High Tennis Program. Wouldn't you like to enjoy the success the other teams in Arlington have experienced? Wouldn't you love to end the joy of the other Tennis Programs that prey on us?
YOU CAN!!!!
All you have to do is write a small letter to a school board member stating you want a Jr. High Program for your children. No begging door to door for signatures. No yard signs saying vote yes on proposition Court will be necessary. No campaign fundraising dinners costing $1000 a plate (though donations will not be turned down). In order to show your support please go to www.lamartennis.net in order to get the email addresses of a few board members. Also on the website you will also be able to cut and paste key reasons for having a program.
Only a few letters have been written to date and we need more if we will have a chance to change Arlington forever. I implore you to take a little time this week to write a letter to the school board. Change our world forever!
