Lamar Viking Tennis Booster Club

Tennis can be a very frustrating sport. There is no way around the hard work. Embrace it. You have to put in the hours because there is always something you can improve. Roger Federer

COACH COURTNEY MONROE

Coach Monroe is a native of Arlington, and a graduate of Arlington High School ('89) and Texas A & M ('93). After teaching in AISD for seven years, he became the Assistant Tennis Coach at Lamar in the fall of 2000. When Coach Ramirez retired the first time in the spring of 2004, he assumed the responsibilities of Head Coach. He is proud of the tradition of winning in the Viking Tennis Program, and during his tenure is keeping the streak alive as the Vikes have never finished below 4th place in Team Tennis. While wins in the program are important, he also keeps track of how many weddings of former players he attends, and considers those just as cool.  His wife Alyce (Lamar '88) also teaches at Dan Dipert Career + Technical Center; she is the unpaid Assistant Coach. Their daughter, Bethanne, is an avid supporter of "Daddy tennis."

Coach Jon Meyer (aka BatMeyer)

Coach Meyer was born in Illinois, lived in Italy, and raised in Oklahoma.  He moved to the great state of Texas and graduated from UT-Arlington with a BA in Spanish and a minor in English.  This is his second coaching stint at Lamar; he also served as the Assistant Coach from '06-'08.  In between, he got married, moved to San Antonio, was a head coach for three years and got his MA in School Counseling from TAMU-San Antonio.  He and his wife have a daughter named Hannah, a son named named Ian, and a beagle named Maddy.  His high school career in Oklahoma included two Semi-Final appearances at the State Tournament, once finishing third. He also played college tennis in Oklahoma for two years.  Coach Meyer has coached tennis for 15 years, and has been certified as an Elite Professional by the USPTA for the past nine years.  He will also teach Spanish 2 this year.

Coach Emilie Jones

This is Coach Jones' second year at Lamar High School.  Coach Jones is from Austin, TX where she played varsity tennis at Cedar Park High School for 4 years.  She then went on to play tennis at North Central Tennis College before finishing her degree at University of Texas at Austin. This will be her 6th year coaching tennis at the high school level and her 10th year teaching.  She is married to Joshua Jones (Lamar ’04), and they have a son, Ethan (9), who loves soccer and tennis. They are in the process of adopting an 8 year old boy and a 4 year old girl that they have had for the past year.
