Lamar Viking Tennis Booster Club

I love the winning, I can take the losing, but most of all I love to play. ~ Boris Becker Losing is not my enemy . . . fear of losings is my enemy. ~ Rafael Nadal

Coach Monroe is a native of Arlington, and a graduate of Arlington High School ('89) and Texas A & M ('93). After teaching in AISD for seven years, he became the Assistant Tennis Coach at Lamar in the fall of 2000. When Coach Ramirez retired the first time in the spring of 2004, he assumed the responsibilities of Head Coach. He is proud of the tradition of winning in the Viking Tennis Program, and during his tenure is keeping the streak alive as the Vikes have never finished below 4th place in Team Tennis. While wins in the program are important, he also keeps track of how many weddings of former players he attends, and considers those just as cool.  His wife Alyce also teaches at Lamar; she is the unpaid Assistant Coach. Their daughter, Bethanne, is an avid supporter of "Daddy tennis."

Coach Meyer is in his second coaching stint at Lamar; he also served as the Assistant Coach from '06-'08.  In between, he got married, moved to San Antonio, and was a head coach for three years.  He and his wife have a daughter named Hannah, a son named named Ian, and a beagle named Maddy.  His high school career in Oklahoma included two Semi-Final appearances at the State Tournament, once finishing third. He also played college tennis in Oklahoma for two years.  Coach Meyer has coached tennis for 15 years, and has been certified as an Elite Professional by the USTA for the past nine years.  He also teaches Spanish and AVID.
