Tennis can be a very frustrating sport. There is no way around the hard work. Embrace it. You have to put in the hours because there is always something you can improve. Roger Federer

Coach Monroe is a native of Arlington, and a graduate of Arlington High School ('89) and Texas A & M ('93). After teaching in AISD for seven years, he became the Assistant Tennis Coach at Lamar in the fall of 2000. When Coach Ramirez retired the first time in the spring of 2004, he assumed the responsibilities of Head Coach. He is proud of the tradition of winning in the Viking Tennis Program, and during his tenure is keeping the streak alive as the Vikes have never finished below 4th place in Team Tennis. While wins in the program are important, he also keeps track of how many weddings of former players he attends, and considers those just as cool.  His wife Alyce (Lamar '88) also teaches in Arlington at the Dan Dipert Career + Technical Center; she is the unpaid Assistant Coach. Their daughter, Bethanne, is an avid supporter of Viking tennis, even though she doesn't play on the team.
