Lamar Viking Tennis Booster Club

Tennis can be a very frustrating sport. There is no way around the hard work. Embrace it. You have to put in the hours because there is always something you can improve. Roger Federer

Coach Monroe is a native of Arlington, and a graduate of Arlington High School ('89) and Texas A & M ('93). After teaching in AISD for seven years, he became the Assistant Tennis Coach at Lamar in the fall of 2000. When Coach Ramirez retired the first time in the spring of 2004, he assumed the responsibilities of Head Coach. He is proud of the tradition of winning in the Viking Tennis Program, and during his tenure is keeping the streak alive as the Vikes have never finished below 4th place in Team Tennis. While wins in the program are important, he also keeps track of how many weddings of former players he attends, and considers those just as cool.  His wife Alyce (Lamar '88) also teaches at Dan Dipert Career + Technical Center; she is the unpaid Assistant Coach. Their daughter, Bethanne, is an avid supporter of "Daddy tennis."

Coach Kayce Hackney

Coach Hackney was born and raised in Arlington, and is a proud graduate of Lamar (’09) where she played 4 years of varsity tennis. She then went on to attend Texas A&M (after some serious convincing from Coach Monroe) and graduated in 2013 with a degree in history. She began teaching right after college, and eventually found herself coaching cheerleading as well. Coach Hackney is currently in her 6th year of teaching, and is ecstatic to be back out on the courts coaching tennis this year alongside cheer. When Coach Hackney is not busy with school, she can usually be found traveling the world, watching sports, or chugging coffee. VFND

Coach Emilie Jones

This is Coach Jones' third year at Lamar High School.  Coach Jones is from Austin, TX where she played varsity tennis at Cedar Park High School for 4 years.  She then went on to play tennis at North Central Tennis College before finishing her degree at University of Texas at Austin. This will be her 7th year coaching tennis at the high school level and her 11th year teaching.  She is married to Joshua Jones (Lamar ’04), and they have a son, Ethan (10), who loves soccer and tennis. They are in the process of adopting a 9 year old boy and a 5 year old girl that they have had for the past 2 years.
